We tell ourselves stories every day. Some of these stories are positive and uplifting, others negative and limiting. Unfortunately, the negative stories are told far more often than the positive.
What's more, the stories we tell ourselves create our reality. When you focus your thoughts and intentions on lack, failure or what you believe you can't do, that is what you'll get. However, if you shift your thoughts toward achievement and positivity, you'll open new doors you never knew existed, boost your self-confidence, take back your power and harness your maximum potential.
I work with clients daily to overcome obstacles standing in their way of success. These obstacles come in all different shapes and sizes - work, school, responsibilities, time....you get the picture.
Some of the obstacles life throws at us we can control and even eliminate. Yet there are other obstacles we have no control over. In these cases we have to learn how to mitigate their limiting effects - either by moving them out of the way or finding creative solutions to get around them.
Regardless of the type of obstacles, one thing is certain; you will always have to deal with them. And there is one obstacle that I see more often than any others.
This obstacle is one of the most obstructive and limiting obstacles that exists. It blinds not just our forward vision, but our peripheral and hindsight as well. It also happens to be one of the only obstacles we have complete control over. If this is the case, why is it so prevalent and limiting? And what is it?
This obstacle is YOURSELF.
Here's the good news...YOU can remove this obstacle. It all starts with the will to do so and a little positive thinking. Is it really that easy? Yes...and no. For some, making the switch from negative to positive thinking is relatively simple. For others, it takes a little more time, patience and effort. We are all different. We are all unique. And our life experiences and current situation drastically shape how easy that shift will be. But no matter what end of the spectrum you fall on, it IS possible.
I spend months and even years helping people make this shift to improve their lives and accomplish their goals. The first step is an easy one you can do on your own, and that is to make the decision to take back control and commit to change your way of thinking. Once you've done that, you can start changing your negative stories into positive ones by being mindful of your thoughts and flipping the script.
Let's start by flipping the script on that negative self-talk in the beginning of this email.
I have so much to offer to the world.
I AM good enough.
I AM smart enough.
Not only can I do that, I can crush that!
I AM capable and knowledgeable.
Now it's your turn! Take a few minutes to think about the negative stories you've told yourself today, then take those stories, kick them out of your head and replace them with the truth - YOU ARE CAPABLE OF ANYTHING YOU SET YOUR MIND TO. And the next time one of those negative little jerks rears it's ugly head, punch it in the nose and tell it where to go!
