Lost & Found: Finding Your Voice In Unexpected Places

I'm an avid reader who plows through about a book a week, sometimes even more. And, honestly, a lot of what I read is fiction. I love diving into a good story and getting swept away by the characters and plots. It’s a fantastic way to escape the daily grind and let my mind wander.

But fiction isn’t just an escape for me—it’s a spark. It lights up my creativity and nudges me to think outside the box. Fiction challenges me to dream up new solutions, see the world in different ways and embrace the magic of possibility.

Right now, I'm reading The Last Bookshop. It’s a beautiful tale about two women living in different times, whose lives are strangely intertwined by an eccentric bookshop and the stories within its walls.

One line in the book really struck me: "In a place called lost, strange things are found." I love this idea, though I'd tweak it slightly to say, "In a place called lost, UNEXPECTED things are found." That change hits closer to home for me.

I feel like it’s when we’re most lost—when we let go of control, of our preconceived ideas, of what we think is possible—that we stumble upon the most magical parts of ourselves. That's when we become our most creative and innovative.

I see this over and over in the work I do with clients, and I experience it myself. We all have this reservoir of untapped potential, just waiting to be discovered. Sometimes, it takes feeling lost to find the most incredible things within us.

And this ties directly into finding your authentic voice and sharing your passion, purpose and perspective with confidence. When you let go of what you think you should say or how you should say it, that’s when your true voice emerges. It's in that place of uncertainty, where you might feel a bit lost, that your real story comes to life—the one that connects, resonates and inspires others.

So, here’s to getting lost—and to all the unexpected magic we find when we do, including the authentic voice that’s been waiting to be heard all along.
